The primer is the manual. Stories is everything else.

A field note from a winter in a Vermont farmhouse. A conversation with the engineer who designs the cold-climate test chambers. A short read on what a heat pump sounds like in the room next to your bed at three in the morning, which is the only question the spec sheet never answers.

Stories is updated when there is something worth saying, and not when there is not. The rhythm is slow on purpose. We would rather publish six pieces a year that hold up at five years than thirty pieces a year that read like they were due last Tuesday.

A new piece always appears in the RSS feed.

  1. The quiet week A field note from the first week after the install, when the house feels colder than it is and the explanation is in the calibration, not the thermostat.
